O Imperativo no Inglês

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

Josué 1:9

Utilizamos o imperativo para expressar ordens, desejos, dar conselhos e sugestões.

Have I not commanded you? (Não fui eu que ordenei?)

No inglês a formação do imperativo é muito simples, pois é formado pelo infinitivo sem a partícula to.

Observe:

Be strong and courageous. (Seja forte e corajoso)

Já no imperativo negativo usamos don’t ou do not.

Observe:

Do not be afraid. (Não tenha medo)

Possessive Adjectives

Os adjetivos possessivos (possessive adjectives) acompanham o substantivo indicando posse.

Veja:

It is MY family.

It is YOUR family.

It is HIS family.

It is HER family.

It is ITS family.

It is OUR family.

It is YOUR family.

It is THEIR family.

“the”

Em inglês o artigo definido, ao contrário do português, não apresenta variações de gênero e número.

The is the english article – e corresponde aos seguintes artigos em português: o, a, os, as.

For example:       in portuguese         in english:

                                    o pão              the bread                
                                     a luz                  the light
                                    

Read:

John 6:35 “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger.”

“I am the light of the world; he who fallows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

Indefinite Article

“A” and “An”

O significado de “a” e “an” é o mesmo e servem para indicar algo ou alguém no singular.

“A” e “an” correspondem aos seguintes artigos em português: um, uma.

a – before consonants (antes de consoantes)

For example:

	I am a disciple of Jesus Christ

 

 an – before vowels (antes de vogais)

For example:

	I am an athlete of Jesus Christ

 

Exceptions

Utiliza-se a antes de u e eu quando são pronunciadas como “yu”

For example: a useful book (um livro útil)

Utiliza-se an antes de h quando esta não é pronunciada.

For example: an honor (uma honra
